Bearing Witness from
St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church
Welcome to the 'Homilies Page' of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church. In the Orthodox Christian tradition the concept of receiving a good word means to receive wisdom regarding how we live in Christ. Similarly being a 'Martyr' or 'Bearing Witness' means to live such a life that people see God present and working in each of us. The following homilies were given at St. George by Fr. Joel and Dn. Joseph and are offered as a good word so that we can all "bear witness to the Light (John 1:7)."

The Samaritan Woman passage in John's Gospel is the longest dialogue Jesus has with a single person in all of the New Testament. Why does John give such prominence to this seemingly random 'water cooler' discussion sitting by a well?

The question of sin and suffering. It is a question most of us wrestle with. When the disciples ask of Christ, "Who sinned this man or his parents" with regard to the man's blindness, they show an all too human misunderstanding of how God relates to our sin and our suffering. Here Fr. Joel explores the nature of suffering as a means of glorifying God by choosing.
