st. katherine women's group

PictureSt. Katherine of Alexandria
St. Katherine’s Women’s Group is a sisterhood of love, service, and education for the women of St. George Church to support one another and share the love of God with the church and community.

We offer a variety of fellowship, education, and service opportunities.  Some of our past activities have been theatre trips, monastery trips, brunches, and an annual Palm Sunday bake sale.

The St. Katherine’s Women’s Group is a parish ministry within the Antiochian Women of North America and the Antiochian Women of the East.

The Women take as our patron the Great Martyr St. Katherine of Alexandria. St. Katherine was the daughter of the governor of Alexandrian Egypt. She was beautiful, intelligent, well-educated, and sought after by many suitors whom she consistently refused. She became a Christian in secret, compelled by a vision of the Theotokos with the Christ child, and was baptized. At a pagan festival, the emperor Maximian was condemning many Christians to death. Katherine boldly went before him and debated 50 of his most-learned philosophers with such wisdom and eloquence that they themselves were converted to faith in Christ. They were subsequently executed, and the emperor put Katherine in prison and subjected her to horrific tortures. She was martyred for her faith in the early 4th Century.  Angels conveyed her relics to Mt. Sinai. Her Feast is celebrated on November 24/25.
